Biography

Charles Parisot pursues his professional activities in the sphere of health information technology architectures and standardization through his consulting firm, Interopehealth. His wide expertise in the implementation of standards in health information exchange takes him to countries across the world, to work with governments and institutions.

Thanks to his long experience and involvement in eHealth, Charles has earned the respect of many health professional associations, as well as vendor associations and health authorities’ representatives throughout the world.

He represents GE Healthcare in vendor associations both in Europe (COCIR) and in the USA (EHRA) where he has been presiding the standards and interoperability working group for several years. Charles is tracking and contributes to the interoperability strategies of many national projects: – elected by the vendor community to the Board of the ANSI HIT Standards Panel (HITSP) between 2005 and 2009; – member of the project team leading the European Commission Mandate.

403 on eHealthInterop; – member of the European Patient Smart Open Service deploying cross-border health information exchange in Europe; – regular dialogue with the teams responsible for many national HIT programs.

Charles has more than 20 years of experience in the domain of health information.  In the early 90s he was one of the primary contributors to the definition and deployment of the DICOM Standard for medical imaging now widely adopted across the world.  His experience is anchored in the Internet an enterprise networks where he deployed standards-based network, between 1976 and 1990, at the French power companies (EDF & GDF) and Boeing Computer Services (Seattle, WA-USA).

More recently he contributed to the standardization of functional profiles for medical record management systems in HL7.  Charles has offered his considerable expertise in successful standards adoption and use through the launch of “Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise” (IHE) in the USA in 1998 and in Europe in 2000. He assumes the co-chairmanship of the technique Committee, first, and the of the Planning Committee for the IT Infrastructure domain.  Charles sits on the Board of IHE International since 2007 where his efforts have focused on the development of interoperability within hospitals for the integration of their medical records and in regional and nation-wide health information exchange networks.  Charles has also contributed to the use of IHE Profiles specifications by Continua in order to ensure a consistent flow of medical device information whether devices are used within the home for personal health or the hospital.

Charles Parisot shares his enthusiasm with many colleagues, health professionals, information technology professionals, researchers or health authorities across the world.  He appreciates the progress accomplished over the last 10 years to overcome a significant number of the barriers to the effective application of interoperability standards through the use of profile specification in the many domains of health management activities.
